June 2020: Found this area from another user’s posting, though I think we went a little further back. Take forest service road 35 out of Jefferson. Campsite is near the end of a pretty rocky road. We did have a 4X4, though it was a stock 2015 Jeep Cherokee and not the trail hawk edition if that gives you an indication of the terrain. For an experienced four wheeler it’s a cake walk but for a novice off-roader be sure you have sufficient clearance and expect to cross a stream or two (up to 12” or so) depending on the seasonal rain and snow melt. There were a few so-so spots and one excellent spot that could easily site four families and tents. This is within like national forest and camping is 100% legal at this spot. In a weekend, only two other vehicles were seen drive up this way, and no other people observed walking.
