Site Details

Outside Capitol Reef NP

As you’re driving away from Capitol Reef, you’ll crest a hill, then the pull-out for this dispersed camping area is on the right. Plenty of spots available, room for RVs/tents/cars, road is pretty packed down so even though it was rainy, the sand did not get muddy and it was easy driving around to find a spot. There are lots of little fire rings made of rock. There are 2 port-a-potties by the entrance. Amazing views (for sunset!!) if you climb up the little slopes that surround the campsite.

May 2021: Very large area just off the highway. Room for many rigs even had 3-4 5th wheels of 30-40ft. USFS provided 2 ports potties when we were there. About 7 miles from the entrance to Capital Reef National Park. Closest boondock site to the park.

Level of confidence the site is free: Most likely - Site is on public lands.
Toilets nearby: Yes, but possibly only temporarily.
4X4 or high clearance vehicles: No
Cell service available: Verizon
Park pass or permit required: No
Showers nearby: No
Potable water nearby: No
Type of property: USFS (US Forest Service)
